The Future of Land Conservation: What Will Our Landscape Look Like?

Monday, Sept 17, 7pm – Imagine our region in the year 2050. What does the local landscape look like? What natural areas and farmland have been protected for people and wildlife? Which have been developed?  What can we do to influence this future?  Come hear about the Subury Valley Trustee’s strategies for protecting and caring for natural areas in the coming decades, and how we can accelerate the pace of land protection and stewardship in our region.

Lisa Vernegaard, Executive Director of the Sudbury Valley Trustees will present. Lisa formerly served as a Vice President at The Trustees of Reservations, the world’s oldest regional land trust. During her 20+ year tenure at The Trustees, she lead the organization’s work to conserve natural and cultural landscapes, protect and manage working farms, and reduce its own carbon footprint.

Prior to working at The Trustees of Reservations, Lisa worked as a land manager for the Commonwealth, as an educator on Thompson’s Island in Boston Harbor, and for the United States Forest Service in Utah.  She is most familiar with SVT’s work, having served as chair of its stewardship committee from 2003 to 2008.
Lisa holds a B.A. in Biology from Carleton College in Minnesota and a Masters in Forest Science from Yale University.  She lives along the banks of the Assabet River in Maynard and has long enjoyed exploring many of SVT’s 142 properties, whether visiting on foot or kayaking past on one of the region’s three rivers.
