Tuesday, Oct 2, 7:30pm – Wayland composer/pianist Neil Olmstead will present his new song cycle for mezzo-soprano and piano in a lecture/listening session. Neil will discuss the process of composing these pieces and the challenges faced in rehearsing, performing and recording this music. Aural examples of the pieces will be presented. In addition, vocalist Ana Guigui will be on hand to offer her professional perspective.
Neil Olmstead’s compositions have been performed by the Wayland High School and Middle School Jazz Bands. His compositions have been recorded by the Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra and the Bratislava Radio and Television Orchestra. Neil’s jazz recordings include Colaboração, an original piano/guitar duo album. He has performed and lectured throughout the U. S. and abroad. He is author of Solo Jazz Piano, The Linear Approach. Neil is a Professor of Piano at Berklee College of Music, Boston.
