How Rwanda Saved My Life

Wednesday, Jan 30, 7:30pm – On March 10th, 2018, Wayland resident Carl Hobert almost died in Kigali, Rwanda. A devoted team of doctors and nurses in Kigali’s King Faisal Hospital, and a renowned heart surgeon, friend and co-Founder of Boston-based Team Heart, who was in Kigali that night, saved his life. Hobert had been working for in Rwanda for years, focusing on K-12 education reform and youth-based conflict management and prevention. Spoken from the heart, his story is about the power of global medical collaboration, empathy, miracles, and profound faith in a higher power.

Carl Hobert is a graduate of Middlebury College, where he received a BA in Political Science and French. He went on to earn an MA in Spanish, also at Middlebury College, and then a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy (MALD) at the Tufts Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.  He is the author of Raising Global IQ: Preparing our Students for a Shrinking Planet (Beacon Press).
