POSTPONED: Genetic Testing for Hereditary Cancer Risk

Weds, March 18th, 7:30pm – Have you heard of the BRCA genes? What is your hereditary cancer risk and how is it determined? Should you or a family member consider getting tested?

This presentation will provide an overview of what it means to have hereditary cancer risk, what genetic testing for cancer risk involves, and who should meet with a cancer genetic counselor.

 

 

Fatima Amir is a genetic counselor at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute since 2018, where she provides cancer genetic counseling to adult patients. She also provides genetic counseling at the DFCI Community Cancer Care Center at the Whittier Street Health Center in Roxbury, MA. Fatima has a special interest in improving access to genetic counseling services among medically underserved populations, and in achieving health equity in cancer genetics by leading community outreach initiatives. She received her Masters of Science in Medical Genetics from the University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in 2018, and was certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling that same year.
