You’ve probably seen Jacqueline doing her usual exemplary job behind the Circulation Desk. But who would suspect that beneath that sunny countenance beat the dark heart of–a thriller reader! Here are three of her latest recommendations:
The Other Mrs. is a thriller/suspense novel by Mary Kubica. It follows a family of four as they move from Chicago to Maine for many different reasons that are revealed as you read the book. However, their new home isn’t exactly the oasis that they were hoping for. Shortly after they arrive, one of their neighbors is murdered and suddenly everyone is a suspect. As soon as I started this book, I was drawn in immediately and I didn’t want to put it down. It’s full of plot twists and an ending that you will not see coming! Available in audiobook on Hoopla.
Eight Perfect Murders by Peter Swanson is a thriller/mystery that takes place in contemporary Boston. Bookstore owner Malcolm Kershaw lives in Beacon Hill. Years ago, he compiled a list for his bookstore blog of literally eight perfect murders that he took from some of his favorite mystery books. The book takes a dark turn when someone finds Malcolm’s list online and starts to commit the murders. Malcolm must find the killer before it’s too late! Available in audiobook on Hoopla.
The Red Lotus by Chris Bohjalian follows a New York City-based emergency room doctor named Alexis and her boyfriend, Austin, who works in the same hospital. They take a trip to Vietnam for a bike tour and for Austin to see where his father and uncle fought in the Vietnam War. When Austin vanishes on a solo bike ride, it is up to Alexis to find him and figure out what is going on. This is a fast-paced thriller/mystery that is timely, as it includes a global pandemic. It kept me on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t put it down! Hold on Overdrive.
