April is National Poetry month, and to celebrate, the Library of Congress has just made available 50 new audio recordings, never before available online. Poetry is always better when heard. Highlights from this new collection include readings by Robert Bly, Gary Snyder, and Isabella Gardner, a conversation on poetry between Galway Kinnell and Robert Hayden, and even a reading of historical “cowboy poems.” Be sure to check out the rest of the LOC’s Archive of Recorded Poetry and Literature for more encounters with poets like Audre Lorde, Robert Frost, and Elizabeth Bishop. There are now 365 of these recordings streaming online—easily accessible to anyone in the world with an internet connection. One recording for each day of the year!
