Museum Pass Spotlight: Conservation Up Close at the MFA

Categories:

Did you know that the MFA offers behind-the-scenes peeks at their art conservation practices?

Sign up for one of the library’s Museum Discount Passes and take a tour or attend a gallery talk with the Museum of Fine Arts Boston’s conservation team.

Coming up in May: Conservator talks about a pair of carved and painted Japanese architectural panels, Roman/Egyptian funerary portraits, and more.

Plus, a guided tour of the MFA, titled “Gold and Silver on Paper,” with a museum conservationist:

“There is a long history of artists and practitioners using gold and silver to decorate paper, from early medieval manuscripts embellished with gilding to modern metal foil papers. Examine a selection of decorated paper up close, including this 18th-century brocade paper, to discover how these rare materials were applied. Learn to spot fakes through examples that try to imitate the same look with less expensive options, some of which can both elevate and degrade artworks as they age.” (-mfa.org)
