What is a PLAY! Kit?
A PLAY! Kit is a backpack pre-loaded with books and toys to encourage learning through literacy and play.
How does playing help kids learn?
Language-rich, child-centered play fosters early literacy, social emotional growth, problem solving skills, and the confidence to take on new challenges. Developing these skills now will help your child be ready for school.
What is included in the PLAY! Kit?
The items in each PLAY! Kit in a fun theme such as Dinosaurs, Construction, Unicorns, Community, Shapes, and more. Every PLAY! Kit includes:
How long can I keep a PLAY! Kit?
PLAY! Kits circulate for two weeks, no renewals.
Where can I return a PLAY! Kit?
PLAY! Kits must be returned to the Children’s Room desk and checked in by a librarian. DO NOT put a PLAY! Kit in the book drop.
What happens if I lose a PLAY! Kit?
The replacement cost for a PLAY! Kit is $150. If you lose or damage individual books or toys from the kit please speak with a librarian.
Why is there a survey in the PLAY! Kit?
The Wayland Public Library was awarded the Mind in the Making Grant and it is through these funds that the Children’s Room staff created the PLAY! Kits. By filling out the survey you will help us measure the success of this project!
