Callie Crossley hosts the radio show and podcast Under the Radar with Callie Crossley and shares radio essays each Monday on GBH’s Morning Edition. She is a Co-host of GBH’s radio program, The Culture Show which focuses on local and national cultural trends and perspectives. In addition, she offers cultural commentary on GBH’s evening news program, Greater Boston, and on Boston Public Radio, GBH’s midday talk show. Crossley has been a substitute host for the national podcast “Our Body Politic” and is a frequent commentator on local and national television and radio programs.
Crossley has won multiple TV, radio, and film awards, including the prestigious Gold Baton DuPont Columbia award, and an Academy Award “Oscar” nomination for her producer work on the documentary series, Eyes on the Prize: America’s Civil Rights Years. She is the first African-American to be nominated in the Documentary Feature category. She has also earned top honors for both her GBH Boston commentary and her hosting and interviewing skills, including local and national Emmys, and awards from the Associated Press, RTNDA, Edward R. Murrow, Clarion, and the Public Media Journalists Association.
Dan Kennedy is a professor of journalism in the College of Arts, Media and Design and a nationally known media commentator. Professor Kennedy teaches news reporting, opinion writing, media ethics, and other journalism courses with an emphasis on how technology is changing the business of news. He has also been published in The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, Nieman Lab, Nieman Reports, Poynter Online, and other venues.
Kennedy’s most recent book, co-authored with Ellen Clegg, is called What Works in Community News: Media Startups, News Deserts, and the Future of the Fourth Estate. He and Clegg, a retired editorial page editor of The Boston Globe, are also the co-hosts of a School of Journalism podcast, “What Works,” that features interviews with leaders in the reinvention of community journalism.
From its debut in 1998 until its cancellation in 2021, Kennedy was a regular panelist on Beat the Press, an award-winning weekly media program on WGBH. He is also a former media and political columnist for the ‘GBH News website.
